Nature Beauty of Pulau Pemanggil

Pulau Pemanggil is situated at south-east of Pulau Tioman & north-west of Pulau Aur. It is rocky island & its size more or less 9km2 . The population of P. Pemanggil about 40 peoples.
The island is one of the 'hot spot' for diving activities.

Butler's Narrowmouth frog (Amphibia, Anura, Microhylidae, Microhylinae)


Tadpole stage only occupy still water-bodies.


Froglet still occupy water bodies soon to 'migrate' land areas.
Its tail length decrease in fast rate at this stage.



Microhyla butleri (adult stage), commonly found in both
cleared habitats such as gardens & disturbed forest on
the ground among bushes/grasses.

Ornate Narrowmouth frog (Amphibia, Anura, Microhylidae, Microhylinae)


A tiny Microhylid frog was found in the ISB Garden, UM Campus.
A new record for UM Campus! Not that common compare to its congener viz. Microhyla butleri & Microhyla heymonsi.

Odonata: Zygoptera: Platycnemididae (Damselfly)


In terms of size, it is more bigger than its congener viz. Copera marginipes and Copera vittata.
Ivory white abdomen with black bands, white legs & white bands on thorax. Widely distributed in the lowland - forested swamps, still water-bodies.

Yellow-bellied puddle frog (Ranidae)

A small, stocky frog with short, fat hind limbs.
Found in and around/in the ponds or muddy puddles.

Four-lined tree frog (Amphibia, Anura, Rhacophoridae)



A treefrog of disturbed habitats - can be found in gardens, man-made ponds or even in your toilet! Males form calling groups around any still water-bodies.
A picture below is P. leucomystax froglet.

Giant land snail - Achatina fulica


This land-snail easily encounter at night at the ISB Garden UM Campus.
It is locally known as Siput Babi and a macrophytophagous herbivore.
It is a simultaneous hermaphrodite... (How about the picture above?)

Batik & Golden orb-web spiders

The distribution of Batik orb-web spider more towards the coastal area.


Golden orb-web spiders are distributed more towards inland e.g. primary & secondary forests, gardens etc.

Cyrtodactylus consobrinus or Peters' Bow-fingered Gecko
was found resting on tree bark at Ulu Gombak Field Studies Forest Reserve.

Agamid lizards or Dragon lizards are common to Ulu Gombak
Field Studies Centre Forest, Selangor. Bell's Anglehead lizard can be
seen at night resting on tip of dead bamboo (pic. above), ferns, twigs, small tree trunks, etc.
